AI Assistant Over Text

A personal assistant on iMessage, SMS, and WhatsApp

Collaborator(s): Sahil Jagtap

Motivation

Interfaces are a problem in AI that requires more creativity, and people have been rethinking them for a while. Some wanted to build new hardware, like the Humane AI Pin and the Rabbit R1. Others argued that the chat window was the wrong interface, and pushed toward voice or toward agents that run in the background.

By early 2025, models had become reliable at tool use, so an assistant could act on a user's behalf instead of only answering. It seemed like the right time to try a consumer AI assistant. Interestingly, people spend their day on their phones and in iMessage, so a text thread could work as an interface for AI with nothing new to learn. I was in school at the time and part of Founders, Inc. I started this in May 2025, and it was acquired in March 2026 by Strut IT, an IT services and software development firm.

The assistant works over iMessage, SMS, and WhatsApp. It carries out requests across your connected apps and keeps context between conversations.

The timing was roughly right? It came eight months before Clawdbot (now OpenClaw) and more than a year before the 2026 wave of personal AI assistants. I think growing a consumer AI product takes someone who uses these tools religiously and refines them day to day. Frankly, I don't think I was AI-pilled (as in, all-in on using AI for everything) enough for that!
